Maryland Door
Maryland Door Types and Choices for the Home
In your home you will probably have a selection of different doors. They will all serve the same function but in different ways. Deciding which doors to have fitted in your home will depend entirely, on your taste and budget. Although the style and age if the house might determine the type of doors you choose, as very old houses look strange with very new doors.
Doors are generally categorized into interior and exterior, interior doors tend to be lighter, and do not need to be waterproof. They are often used for cupboards or rooms dividers and can be of all different styles. Exterior doors need to be heavier and withstand all weather conditions; they will look sturdy and serve a purpose of keeping people out of your home. Exterior doors often consist of patio doors, French doors, back doors and of course front doors. Front doors are extremely tough, they are thick, heavy and very well made. Often front doors will have toughened glass in the top half of the Maryland door, either a full pane or an ornate panel design. Not only does this look good but it allows light into your home. Often back doors are a half stable design, to allow you to open just the top bit enabling air to get into your home without worry that children or pets can escape.
The majority of doors are set on hinges, these enable them to swing freely when opened, some doors however fold or slide. Patio doors are the sliding variety; they are located on runners which enable you to push the doors back when you want to open them. Patio doors are ideal for the rear of your home, you can easily see out into your garden as they are glass from top to bottom. They offer toughened glass for security and are weather proof; they don’t need a lot of maintenance and won’t need replacing often. The conventional doors in your home will have hinges; these can be set on either the left or right depending on which way you want to open the door. They will have a handle on the opposite side to the hinges, which allows you to open the door easily. Folding doors are popular in small spaces; they are great for bathrooms and small cupboards where you would not be able to open a door into the door due to a lack of space.
Doors these days are designed to look like they are wooden, although they often aren’t. Manufactures make doors from non wood materials and then coat them to make them look wooden. These are cheaper than traditional wooden doors, although they aren’t as such good quality. For a very unconventional look you can always buy steel doors, these look great in some houses and will certainly make your house stand out. Natural wooden doors look great, and you can decide if you want them treated or painted. If you paint them then you will need to do so several times over their lifespan. Although spending a great deal of money on doors seems pointless your front door is the first impression of your home. It needs to look amazing from when people first approach your house.
